On Thursday, February 18, Coca-Cola's offices located in Chilpancingo, Mexico were attacked by protestors, resulting in gasoline bombs being thrown and the injury of 10 people. But why were these offices being attacked?
The protestors are trying to gain awareness and expand their protest about the dissapearance of 43 students and how the government is corrupted and causing more violence in their country. But how is this the government's fault?
On September 26 of last year, 43 students, all male, were traveling to Iguala, Guerrero, Mexico to protest at Iguala's mayor's wife conference. This, however, never happened. Iguala's mayor, Jose Luis Abarca Velazquez, commanded police officers to abduct the students, and hand them over to the local cartel, Guerreros Unidos. When handing the students over, the police claimed that they were the Guerrors Unidos enemies. One of the students was confirmed dead after they found and i.d. his remains. The rest are presumed to be dead after several bags with remains were discovered in a river in Cocula, Guerrero.
Since then, many protests have occurred in Mexico, most of them involving hijacking incidents, robbery and thefts. Attacks, similar to the Coca-Cola's offices incident, are being seen in many places and continuing to expand. But is it really the protestors fault for trying to gain attention about the problem in their country, when many people around the world do not have the slightest clue of what is happening?
